| Maura Duggan and Justin Housman founded Fancypants Bakery in the winter of 2004. At the time, Maura had recently received her EdM from Harvard University, and was pursuing a career in education research. But she knew in her heart that working in academic research would never give her the same satisfaction as becoming her own boss.
Meanwhile, Justin, a Boston College graduate who had also recently completed his master's, was happily teaching elementary school in Wellesley, MA. However he had never given up the dream of working in the food industry born during his studies at the French Culinary Institute in New York City.
And so the couple decided to risk venturing out on their own. In the confines of their tiny, 200 square foot home kitchen in Boston, the concept of Fancypants Bakery was born. They spent months developing a unique and delicious recipe; countless hours mastering the art of the pastry bag; and many long nights perfecting the first adorable decorated cookies to bear the Fancypants name.
Maura and Justin held onto their day jobs for as long as they could, until the cookies demanded their attention full time. Fancypants Bakery relocated to a new facility. The company now employs a staff of talented cookie artists; and proudly provides decorated cookies to happy customers nationwide.
