Why we chose to go non-GMO

February 04, 2015

Every day at Fancypants we are thinking about new ways to keep baking creative, delicious, and healthy (did you know our food coloring is derived only from fruits and veggies?) cookies. If you have browsed the cookie aisles at Whole Foods or your local mom-and-pop store, chances are that you have come across one of our delicious products. Recently we launched a new line of cookies that we are extremely excited about: mini Crunch! cookies. The cookies may be mini, but they are big in flavor and crunch. And, most importantly none of the ingredients contain any genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Our delicious mini Crunch! cookies

GMOs are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.

The long-term effects of consuming genetically modified foods is not completely understood, but most people believe that it is not safe. So in 2014, we partnered with The nonGMO Project, the only 3rd party verification organization in the US that actually monitors and certifies that products are manufactured without any GMOs. We worked hard to obtain our certification: we networked to find new sources of ingredients and established relationship with new suppliers. And the result is a terrific product line with an ingredient profile that we are extremely proud of! We want you to know exactly what you are eating, and to feel great about enjoying our cookies (or sharing them with your little cookie eaters).

We bake mini Crunch! cookies in 4 flavors: chocolate chip, double chocolate, vanilla sugar and brown sugar oatmeal. So, the next time you’re shopping, be sure to keep an eye out for our cookies and for the non GMO Project Verified emblem. And then dig in. bite. crunch. repeat.
